Patriots Jr. Girls Basketball Take Multiple Championship Titles

Hebbville Academy girl’s basketball team are District champions.

On Tuesday night they defeated the Bluenose Academy.

Co-coaches Amy Hopkins says it was a long time coming for this group.

Hopkins says she’s excited her team had this opportunity after missing out on last season.

“Because of work-to-rule, and they worked so hard all season, so it was just nice to see them get rewarded with the win.”

Hopkins and co-coach Laura Whitehouse led the girls to first in the South Colchester Jr. Girls Invitational Top Team title.

They also won the Cobequid Educational Leadership Tournament champions in January.

Hopkins says it’s important to have athletics as a part of their life, alongside academics.

She says sports can teach some life skills a classroom can’t.

“Team work, time management and just social skills – interacting with other people,” she says.

“[And] learning how to be gracious in a win and defeat.”

They will be playing regional championships on February 27th.

Their opponent is yet to be determined.
