The Liverpool Privateers are 3-1 in their best of seven playoff series against the Cole Harbour Colts.
After a 3-1 loss against the Colts Friday night, the Junior B team bounced back on home ice, defeating Cole Harbour 7-1.
Most of the goals were scored during the first period, including one goal in the first 28 seconds of the game.
Matt Quinn, head coach of the Privateers, says momentum has been building.
“It’s been good, we’ve been constantly building all year. I think we’re playing some good hockey near the end of the season and it’s rolled into playoffs,” says Quinn. “It’s a process and you’re always learning.”
But things got a little heated on the ice with multiple fights and penalties on both sides.
If they come out on top in this series they’ll play the winner of the Valley versus East Hants playoffs.
Quinn says that’s typical during playoffs.
“There’s a reality to this that some of them, this might be their last season of competitive hockey, there’s just a different level, that’s just normal with playoff hockey,” says Quinn.
The Privateers Junior B Team, once called the Bay Ducks, was purchased and moved to Liverpool from St. Margaret’s Bay in 2014.
However, it’s clear by the crowds that attend the games regularly, their adopted hometown has gotten behind them.
753 people attended the game at Queens Place Emera Centre last night.
Quinn says he appreciates the town’s enthusiasm but adds that the volunteers make the experience great for his players.
“The people that welcome our players when they’re here, that give them a snack when they arrive, that feed them after a game, it’s everybody pitching in and it’s awesome for our players.”
The Privateers face the Colts again this week.
If they come out on top in this series they’ll play the winner of the Valley vs East Hants playoffs.
