Changes to Nova Scotia’s Education Act will be introduced in the Legislature tomorrow.
Government has said it will immediately go ahead with 11 of the 22 recommendations from Dr. Avis Glaze’s report to overhaul the administration of education in the province.
Earlier this week, Premier Stephen McNeil said he would delay the legislation following talks between himself and Nova Scotia Teachers Union President Liette Doucet.
The union has raised several concerns about the bill which would see the elimination of the English language school boards and the removal of principals and vice-principals from the teachers union.
In a statement, NSTU officials acknowledge they’ve received a copy of the proposed legislation and they’ll be meeting tomorrow to discuss its contents and determine an appropriate response.
It’s expected Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill will introduce the bill when the house sits tomorrow afternoon.
