Lunenburg County Residents Hurrying Hard For Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital

Lunenburg County residents are sweeping up for a good cause.

The 18th annual Curl For A Cause is this weekend.

All weekend, residents will be curling to help raise money for the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital.

Alison Clements with the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore says there will be 24 teams, with all ages and ranges of skills participating.

She says Bridgewater and Lunenburg Curling Clubs have a team, Jr. Curlers, and just community members who want to help.

“It’s really the whole community coming together, and you can feel the energy and how proud they are of their hospital,” she says.

“So it’s pretty amazing to see what Lunenburger’s can do for their hospital.”

Clements says it’s truly a grassroots event, started by enthusiastic curlers back in 2000.

“The fundraiser has basically touched every inch of that hospital – funding for ambulatory care [and] physiotherapy last year.”

This year’s funding goes towards the Alternate Level of Care Department.

The tournament starts at noon at the Lunenburg Curling Club and runs until Sunday.
