This Is International Women’s Day

The theme for the 2018 International Women’s Day campaign is #PressforProgress.

Women around the world have been calling for change.

Whether it’s pay equity or the issue of sexual violence and abuse, women have made it clear that enough is enough.

The executive director of the Tri-County Women’s Centre, Bernadette MacDonald, says women and men, of all ages need to join the conversation.

“We just need to say we’ere going to have a cultural shift. I think that’s what it’s all about.”

She says while the interest is there, more young women and girls need the opportunities to become more engaged.

” There just isn’t enough of those opportunities to bring them together, look at the status of women and where they’re at in terms of their development.”

The International Women’s Day website says the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report findings indicate that gender parity is over 200 years away.
