Bridgewater May Still Bid On Shelburne Policing Contract

The Town of Bridgewater is still hopeful they’ll get to throw their hat into the ring when it comes to providing policing for Shelburne.

The Town of Shelburne had been looking at Bridgewater Police Services to replace their contract with the RCMP, citing issues with the costs.

This weekend Shelburne mayor Karen Mattatal said they’ve extended their contract with the RCMP after some renegotiations.

That’s earned them an annual savings of $85,000.

The town is also looking at doing a shared service contract with their rural counterparts.

Bridgewater CAO Richard MacLellan says BPS will still have a chance to bid on a contract.

“The next step would be who is providing the policing services and it’s our expectation we’ll be able to bid on that and provide a proposal.”

MacLellan believes if the town shares services with Lockeport and the Municipality of Shelburne, they’ll likely seek policing services through a request for proposal.
