South Shore Municipalities Ending Economic Partnership

The economic partnership between nine south shore municipalities is coming to an end.

Many councils have passed motions to leave the South Shore Regional Enterprise Network.

Representing municipalities from Hubbards to Shelburne, the SSREN’s goal was to have the region work together to create beneficial economic strategies.

Chester’s Warden Allen Webber says this has been a long time coming.

“The Province is aware of what we’re doing. Our other partners in Shelburne and Queens counties were aware that this was the intent of the majority of Lunenburg County.”

Webber says from the outset, geography was the issue.

“It’s a lot of distance to cover between here and the end of Shelburne County and we just didn’t feel it was effective.”

Webber says many services are already shared between councils in Lunenburg County which could pave the way to a new partnership.

He says the SSREN will begin winding down once all councils have made their intentions known.
