Artist Lights The Way With Latest Collection Of Paintings

The province’s lighthouses are about to gathered in one place.

Chalkmaster Dave, also known as David Johnston is a Nova Scotian artist travelling the province to paint portraits of every lighthouse.

He’s calling his endeavour, “The Nova Scotian Lighthouse Painting Project of Awesome Sauce”.

Johnston says while he set out to capture images, he’s picked up lot more along the way.

“As I’m doing this, I’m learning more because people are starting to Facebook me saying, ‘Oh my grandfather helped build this one. My father was part of this museum.’ It’s incredible how it’s pulling all these stories together.”

Those stories and paintings will ultimately be compiled into a book.

The Ontario native has been living in Nova Scotia for several years and was struck by the significance of lighthouses.

“I thought, what a great project. People love these things, I love these things. And if I love it, there’s no way I’m a special snowflake and I’m the only one on Earth who loves it, I know other people will like it once I start.”

With around 150 to visit, Johnston hopes to have the book together by Christmas.
