Conservancy Groups Host Clean Up at Gaff Point

People are encouraged to put on their work gloves and help maintain a Lunenburg County trail.

The Nature Conservancy of Canada and Kingsburg Coastal Conservancy are seeking volunteers for basic maintenance at the Gaff Point trail near Hirtle’s Beach.

Stewardship Coordinator, Doug van Hemessen, says there will be some light construction as well.

“Our main project is going to be the construction of a viewing platform for one of the look-offs along the point there where it’s a little bit dangerous for people to get close to the edge.”

The six kilometre coastal trail features wetlands, forest, and rugged cliffs overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.

van Hemessen says he’s hoping for 20 volunteers.

“We provide all the tools right down to work gloves. If you’re looking to have a little bit of a work day and enjoy a walk along the trail with great views then it’s a great opportunity.”

The trailblazing day will be held this Saturday starting around 9 a.m.

Those interested in volunteering are encouraged to pre-register online by visiting here or by calling 1-866-319-5985.
