The provincial Liberals say a new pre-primary program for four year-olds is coming this fall.
Forty-three new locations have been selected, including two in the South Shore.

The existing Early Years Centre program at New Germany Elementary School will be incorporated into the new provincial program.
The new locations Chester District Elementary School and West Northfield Elementary School.
There are six new sites in the TriCounties including Port Maitland School, Drumlin Heights, Carleton School, Hillcrest Academy in Shelburne and Weymouth Consolidated School.
Education and Early Childhood Development Minister Zach Churchill says this is an exciting day for the government and Nova Scotian parents.
“It’s going to be free and accessible for four year-olds from one end of the province to the other. Today, we were able to announce phase one for September, and we’ll begin work immediately on phase two and three of this project.”
He says the program is proven to help four year-olds prepare for elementary school and beyond.
“Pre-Primary programs for four year-olds helps kids transition into an academic learning environment, it helps with their social transitioning into that environment, and has led to good outcomes through the course of their lives.”
Sites for this phase were selected based on areas of greatest need. Churchill says this will save Nova Scotians thousands in daycare costs.
