Suspended Police Chief Returns To Court To Face Sex Assault Charges

Bridgewater’s Police Chief John Collyer appeared in Bridgewater Court today for a preliminary hearing on a charge of sexual assault and two charges of sexual exploitation in relation to a 17 year-old girl.

The preliminary hearing determined there was enough evidence to proceed to trial.

Collyer will return to court April 26 to set a date for those proceedings to begin.

The alleged offences are believed to have occurred between April 1 and July 31, 2016.

Collyer has been suspended since charges were laid in May of 2017.

The youth’s identity is being protected under a publication ban.
