Lunenburg County Animal Shelter Expanding

Kittens waiting for their forever home will soon have more room to stretch their legs in Lunenburg County.

A 500 square foot expansion is in the works for SHAID Tree Animal Shelter in Whynott’s Settlement.

President Danny Lohnes says they’ve relied on the workers to help them decide exactly what’s needed.

“We haven’t done anything with out staff’s recommendation about what they would like to have, and what would make the shelter more efficient,” he says. “They’re excited about it.”

Lohnes says along with a new greeting area and quarantine space, there will be a special place for people to spend time with animals.

“There’s also going to be a meet and great room. When you adopt or relinquish a pet it will be a separate room where you can meet.”

He says most of the money is already in place but he expects they’ll need to do a little more fundraising.

Lohnes says there’s still lots of ways people can help with the renovations.

He says if you want to pitch in just call the shelter.

Construction is expected to begin this fall.
