It’s a step into the 21st century for councillors in the Municipality of Lunenburg.
Assistant Returning Officer, Merydie Ross, spent time teaching the group how to like, share, tweet and hashtag.
She says platforms like Facebook can help encourage people to get out and vote.
“There’s a significant number of voters who have lower voter turn out and those are also the same voters who use social media.”
She hopes communicating with them via Facebook and Twitter could go a long way in changing that trend.
Ross says her focus right now is making sure people are on the electors list.
“We would like elected councillors to simply communicate with their constituents.”
She says social media will help get the message out that voters need to make sure their information is up to date.
