Small Fire on Bridgewater’s Old Bridge

Bridgewater police say the cause of a small fire on the old bridge earlier this week is still unknown. Police and fire services responded to the scene around dinner time on Tuesday.

Chief John Collyer says it was quickly dealt with.

“The wooden boards on the walkway were smouldering,” he says. “When our members arrived they used an extinguisher to put out the main part and when the fire department arrived they made sure it was out and then cleared the scene.”

Collyer says they have no reason to believe the fire was set on purpose.

Traffic was diverted for about an hour and the boards have since been replaced.
