Fewer teams didn’t stop Bridgewater’s Relay for Life event from surpassing their goal of raising $100,000. Twenty-seven teams helped raise $106,000 this year towards cancer prevention, advocacy, research, information and screening. It beat last year’s total of $104,000 with 37 teams. However, it wasn’t all good news as the leadership chair has decided to move on. Sarah Sweeny says it’s time to pass the torch to someone else “After eight years with the Cancer Society, I’ve decided to find another organization that might need some extra help.” Sweeny says she has other causes that have personally affected her family and feels it’s time to start supporting those organizations. A replacement hasn’t been named yet. This was the 12th year for the Bridgewater Relay for Life event. Other Relay for Life events are planned for June 20 in Chester and Yarmouth.
