Lunenburg Spending Almost 300K To Improve Ventilation At Wastewater Plant

Lunenburg council will spend $287,000 on its waste-water treatment plant.

It has been plagued with an odour problem both outside and more recently inside with complaints from employees.

The money will help upgrade the ventilation system.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says it’s not a unique problem for towns with sewage treatment plants.

“The jury is still out, so to speak, as to what constitutes a dangerous situation or a safety hazard and really the industry hasn’t really defined it that well.”

Councillor Peter Mosher voiced concern over the amount of money being spent on the facility and suggested replacing it altogether.

Hazardous gas emissions inside the plant have raised health concerns among employees.

Bailey says the safety of the employees at the plant is their number one concern.

They continue to look for ways to make the workplace safe.
