Nova Star Cruise Ship Seized By U-S Federal Court

A newspaper in Portland, Maine reports the Nova Star ferry has been seized by a U.S. federal court after a company claims it’s owed 200-thousand dollars.

The order came Friday, just one day after the cruise line lost the right to run the heavily subsidized ferry service between Yarmouth and Portland.

A spokesperson for Nova Star, Kathy Purcell has issued the following statement:

“Nova Star Cruises has paid most of its supplier costs. We plan to pay all our suppliers as we have done over the past two seasons.”

The Province announced Thursday Bay Ferries will operate the service after the cruise line continually came in over budget.

In the first year alone, the service cost the government $28.5 million in subsidies.
