The acquisition of land by MODL on Chester’s side of Sherbrooke Lake is pushing the municipality to propose changes to its planning strategy.
The amendments have to do with public access to land adjacent to inland waterways.
Warden Allen Webber says they are proposing the changes after concerns were raised.
He says the municipality is limited to what they can change under the Municipal Government Act.
“What we’re doing is controlling those things we believe are of the greatest concern to the best of our ability. One of the policy statements we’ve made is that it (lake) is for non-motorized boats only.”
Webber says MODL is aware the process is underway but adds, no formal discussions have been held.
MODL announced the acquisition of two parcels of land with about 550 feet of water frontage in September, much to the displeasure of MODC because they were not notified about the decision.
Webber says he believes it was an error in MODL’s part but adds, mistakes happen and it’s behind him.
Other amendments include fencing, safe access and adequate parking and storm run off.
A public hearing is scheduled for November 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Municipality of Chester council chambers.
