Nova Scotia will be testing its public emergency alerting system this afternoon.
It happens at 1:55 p.m. , as part of Emergency Preparedness Week.
Paul Mason, executive director of EMO says they’ve been conducting the tests for the past two or three years, but have been focused on radio and tv.
Mason says today’s test begins with a loud alert sound followed by a message on cell phone screens.
Officials will be monitoring the test closely to make sure there are no glitches.
A test did not go as planned on Monday in Quebec, where only those who had installed the Weather Network app received the alert.
In Ontario, only some received an alert even if their device was compatible, leaving many questioning how the Alert Ready system would function in a real emergency.
Pelmorex, which was responsible for the tests along with emergency management officials, blamed a coding error for the failure in Quebec.
