Bridgewater Court House Locked Down For Gun Threat

Updated at 5 p.m.

Bridgewater Justice Centre was locked down this morning following a gun threat.

Bridgewater Police responded to the call at around 10:45 after an adult male threatened to return to the courthouse with a firearm.

The man had been in court for a non-criminal matter.

Keith Corcoran, court reporter for LighthouseNOW, wasn’t covering proceedings today however, he witnessed the heavy police presence outside the building.

He says marked and unmarked police cars were on the property and it was apparent from the street that there was an ongoing situation.

“I saw at least one officer holding what’s known as those Colt C8 carbine rifles keeping watch outside the courthouse entrance.”

Police and sheriff services locked down both the courthouse and neighbouring Provincial Building as a precaution.

The lockdown was lifted less than an hour later after the man was arrested at his Bridgewater home without incident.

No firearms were found.

The matter is still under investigation and charges are pending.
