Bridgewater Transit Shakes Up Schedule Ahead Of Summer Months

Bridgewater’s Transit service is revamping its schedule.

Eight months after its creation, the town now has a better grasp on the needs of their riders.

Starting May 25, the bus will operate from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m weekdays and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays.

The Sunday run is being dropped.

Transit Planner MacKenzie Childs says the decision was based not only on data but from speaking to those who use the service.

Childs says they’ll also tweak the route timing in the coming months in hopes of aligning better with Michelin.

“We’ve received some feedback from some Michelin employees and … the current schedule doesn’t quite work for them, it doesn’t get them to work on time unfortunately.”

Childs says they’ve also been trying to find ways to make the bus more accessible for students.

“We did some general inquiries with the school and looked at their start times as well and we’re kind of just missing that they have to wait a little bit too long to catch the bus after and get to school a little bit too early.”

Childs believes the system is working well so far but they’ll continue to make adjustments as they head into their demonstration phase of the project.

They’ll also be looking closely at how riders use the bus during the summer months.

Childs says they don’t know yet if the warm weather will mean more people walking or if the increase in activities and events will see their numbers grow.
