The Mayor of Shelburne is thrilled to finally say ‘farewell Farley.’
Karen Mattatall says it’s wonderful that the derelict vessel, the MV Farley Mowat will be towed out of the Port of Shelburne.
The Canadian Coast Guard is expected to begin the process tomorrow morning at 7.
It will be taken to Port Mersey in Queens County, where it will be dismantled.
Mayor Mattatall says the town is planning a party on the waterfront.
“They will be able to walk onto the port on the western side. We’re going to have coffee and cake, and there is going to be music. It will be a real celebration.”
Mattatall says the Farley Mowat has cost taxpayers over $200,000 since 2014.
That includes the removal of contaminated water, lost wharf and legal fees.
Mattatall says they are hoping to be reimbursed for the cost, since it was never the fault of the town.
Owner Tracy Dodds left the rusted ship tied up at the Port three years ago.
It sank along the wharf in 2015 and had to be raised.
