Province Awards $2.8 Million Tender For Construction Of Shelburne Medical Clinic

Construction of a new medical clinic for Shelburne will begin soon.

The province awarded the tender to Rikjak Construction Limited of Lunenburg at a cost of over $2.8 million.

It will be built near Roseway Hospital, and planning of the site work should start next month.

The Warden of the Municipality of Shelburne is thrilled.

Penny Smith says it’s been a long time coming.

“But it’s going to be a great facility, and it will be wonderful for our community. We’ll soon have a clinic that will really take care of our health care needs.”

The new clinic will be made up of family physicians, nurse practitioners, a family practice nurse, and support staff.

The municipality is contributing $450,000 to project, and $500,000 over five years for doctor recruitment and retention.

It’s been a seven plus year wait for a new clinic, as the original one next to Roseway Hospital was closed by the government for renovations.

The province ended up tearing it down.

Smith says the new facility should be completed by early next summer.

She says this adds to a growing list of projects in the area.

“We have the new Falls Lane Bridge, we’ve had lots of paving going in in the area, there will be work on the wharf in Gunning Cove. There are a lot of great things happening in Shelburne County right now.”
