Provincial, Federal Funding Returned After Renovations Cancelled At Former Elementary School

Federal and provincial funding is being returned after a renovation project was cancelled in Western Shore.

The Municipality of Chester abandoned work on the former elementary school after costs were projected to rise over $1.5-million.

CAO Tammy Wilson says she has contacted the Nova Scotia government and ACOA.

“To let them know that we are not proceeding with the project we applied for funding for and asking them how they would like us to proceed in terms of making arrangements for the return of the funds.”

Around $150,000 will be returned – just over $75,000 to each unit.

Wilson says she’s not aware of any other projects where the funding could be used.
