Plans for two fire departments to merge are slowly moving forward.
The Town of Mahone Bay met with their fire department this week to get feedback on the idea of combining with Blockhouse.
Mayor Joe Feeney says it was a productive meeting.
“They’ve made us aware of their ideas and their feelings,” he says, “and we feel comfortable going forward.”
Feeney says amalgamation would require compromise from everyone involved.
He thinks there are significant benefits that could make it worthwhile.
Council is hoping to meet with officials with the Blockhouse fire department and ratepayers in the coming weeks.
