Tomorrow, Tuesday Aug 15, is National Acadian Day.
Acadians have celebrated on that date since 1881.
The day will be marked by flag raisings, community festivals, entertainment and family events designed to bring Acadian culture and history to life.
Bernice d’Entremont of the Acadian Museum in West Pubnico says Tuesday is important to all Acadians.
“It’s a way of celebrating our Acadian flag, to be together as a family, to have children around us and to celebrate all the things we have to be thankful for.”
d’Entremont says more Acadian youth are taking an interest in their history and heritage.
“In West Pubnico we have the Acadian Museum, the Historical Village and recently we received a monument that people can read and be very proud. Also the genealogy and the history is very much alive, so I think people come to celebrate.
There will be a flag raising ceremony at 1pm tomorrow at the Acadian Museum followed by the singing of Ave Maris Stella and an afternoon and evening filled with local entertainment and activities for the kids.
