The grass is nearly ready for cleats at Kinsmen Field in Bridgewater.
Work has been completed to improve drainage underground, reshape the field, fertilize and conduct irrigation.
Other work done includes seeding, adding lime and having an erosion preventative material applied.
The field was expected to open this month but consultations with football users extended the closure by a few weeks.
Mayor David Mitchell says the field has never been perfect but it’s close.
“So far, what we’ve seen from the heavier rains that we had in June it appears to be in much better shape than it’s been in before.”
Roughly $56,000 has been spent on the field over the past two years.
“Year after year it’s getting more use as more and more youth are participatng in sports that use the field,” says Mitchell.
“I love to see the wear and tear on it because it actually means we’re using it.”
The field is expected to be ready for use by mid-September.
