Race Week Opens in Chester

Today marks the start of Chester Race Week and organizers are hoping to get as many people out as possible.

Greg Sapp is a veteran racer and says they are seeing more young people this year than before.

“We have a lot of young people coming out on the boats which is great and that means the sailing maternity will be able to keep going.”

There are about 120 boats in the water right now, which Sapp says equals about 1,200 people.

The goal is to have 160 boats participating.

Racers will compete in one of 15 fleets on five different courses.

The event goes until Saturday.

Visitors can expect pop up shops and live music alongside the boats.
