The mayor of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg calls it a win-win situation for local residents who drive Highway 103.
Carolyn Bolivar-Getson says the recent announcement to twin the major highway between Tantallon and Hubbards is great news.
“Every piece that is twinned we will save lives and I also think that it gives us that closer proximity to Halifax and people do travel. It is that one hour radius of the hub.”
Bolivar-Getson says she would love to see Highway 103 twinned from Yarmouth to Halifax but realizes there are cost constraints associated with the work.
The federal and provincial governments are spending $140-million to twin more than 22 kilometres of road.
Work will start next April and is expected to be finished by 2023.
