Gert’s Gone But Hurricane Season Is Not Over Yet

(Graphic- Canadian Hurricane Centre)

While Hurricane Gert passed our shores without much effect, the professional weather-watchers are keeping a close eye on some other systems.

Environment Canada says Gert is now well east of our area.

As of early Thursday Gert, a Category 1, was located approximately 500 kilometres south of Cape Race, Newfoundland.

Meteorologist Jim Murtah tells us they are monitoring three potential areas of development in the tropical Atlantic.

“We’re going to give it a couple of days to see how these potential areas develop. Quite likely, one of them will be our next tropical cyclone we need to worry about.”

The 2017 Atlantic hurricane season officially began on June 1, and will end on November 30.
