Some individuals have been dropping baby rabbits off along the side of a road in Barrington after realizing how quickly pet bunnies can breed.
Shelley Boutiler and some like-minded friends started using live traps to catch the cute critters.
They don’t want them to become prey for animals nor do they want them to breed in the wild.
She says a woman who rescues cats let them use two live traps for the rabbits.
“Within an hour-and-a half they were gone. Stolen. It’s very frustrating. Why would someone do that? Other people that had lent us live traps don’t want them out anymore. They’re $115 a piece.”
Boutiler says they’ve resorted to using nets. They’ve caught 5 or 6 so far and they’ve all been adopted out to good homes.
However she says more rabbits continue to be abandoned.
