Crews Racing To Complete Phase 1 Of Bridgewater Elementary Playground

When kids return to Bridgewater Elementary tomorrow morning they should have a new place to play.

Marcy Rogers is one of the teachers spearheading the effort to build the new playground.

She says community fundraising efforts and money from the town have allowed at least the first phase to be completed.

“It’s a complete overhaul of the playground, so the overall project is huge, between four hundred and five hundred thousand dollars. This is phase 1-A. It’s really hard to get a project of this size fundraised.”

Teacher, Megan Comstock and her group have been working to raise enough money to build the first section.

“When you start looking at how much things cost, it’s astronomical that, it’s not covered and that the provincial government does not support playgrounds.”

She says they’re going to continue their fundraising and hope some corporate sponsors may come forward to help them reach their goal.

Crews are working to have a climbing wall, stumps and slide complete before school opens.

Rogers says they’re still a long way from their final vision of a combination natural and traditional playground.

She says anyone who wishes to make a donation can do so by calling the school or through Bridgewater Elementary’s web page.
