A Yarmouth businesswoman has been appointed Chair of Tourism Nova Scotia’s Board of Directors.
Irene d’Entremont had been serving as Interim Chair since March, and had been Vice-Chair since 2012.
d’Entremont says she’s happy to take on such an important role.
She says tourism in the province is on the upswing.
“Visitation to Nova Scotia increased by eight percent in 2016, and this year, as of June we’re up another eight percent from 2016.”
The board is hoping to help the province reach $4 billion in tourism revenue by 2024.
Last year, the $2.6 billion mark was reached.
d’Entremont points to the Yarmouth ferry as a big factor in the positive numbers, especially for room nights sold.
“In July, there was an increase in non-resident overnight visitation to Nova Scotia via the Yarmouth ferry. It was up 19 percent compared to July 2016, and up 69 percent compared to 2013.”
d’Entremont says she’s looking forward to continuing a efforts to attract more, first time, higher-spending visitors to Nova Scotia.
