Lunenburg hosted federal finance minister Bill Morneau Wednesday.
Morneau was there with MP Bernadette Jordan as part of an ice cream social to hear concerns from residents and promote the government’s recent middle-class tax cut and increased child care benefits.

The minister also discussed the proposed Canada Pension Plan changes.
“What’s going to be a real challenge, in particular for the next generation – and that’s people really not being able to retire in dignity.”
Morneau says they hope to have all provinces on board this fall in order to roll out the new plan two years from this January.

Bill Morneau also spoke about federal health care transfer payments.
“Places like Nova Scotia where there’s an aging demographic. So it’s a discussion that’s ongoing, and one that we want to make progress on because we know how important it is.”
Morneau says the feds have already increased transfers to their highest level ever but will continue to monitor the needs of the province.
The minister was wrapping up a swing through Atlantic Canada before heading back to Ottawa.
