A proposal to create a Business Improvement District has been nixed in the Town of Bridgewater.
The move, which would have introduced a levy on commercial properties in the King Street area, was defeated by a vote.
Sixty-eight ballots were received – 23 in favour and 45 against.
About 170 commercial properties and business owners were eligible to vote.
Committee member, Ida Scott, says it’s disappointing news.
“I did think we would have more voters come out. We had publicized it quite a lot and met with the businesses and sent out notices to property owners.”
Scott wonders if the timing of the vote was right, given the on-going construction on King Street.
“We feel that there are some positive opportunities missed here.”
Town council will receive a report from staff at their meeting on August 8.
