Two Fires Burning Out Of Control Near Keji

The Greenfield forest fire that flared up Thursday has been contained.

But crews are now fighting two fires burning out of control near Kejimkujik Park.

The Department of Transportation has closed Trunk 8 from Maitland Bridge to the entrance of Keji Park.

Department of Natural Resources Operations Manager Jim Rudderham says people need to stay clear of that area.

“They closed the highway because there was a lot of smoke and visibility is poor. We also have air tankers from New Brunswick working that fire and they’re working across the road – so it’s for safety.”

He says it’s very easy for people to help the fire crew.

“The best thing the public can do is be so super careful in the woods with anything that can start a fire. So these guys don’t have to go in there and put them out.”

Rudderham says several days of soft, steady rain is needed to prevent more fires like this from happening.
