Swimming To PEI For The Kids

People heading to PEI in August isn’t remarkable, unless of course they’re going to swim there.

This Sunday, 62 of them will do just that.

It’s part of the Big Swim fundraiser for Brigadoon Village, a camp in the Annapolis Valley that provides programs for youth and families living with chronic illness or special needs.

Lunenburg’s Neil Silver is swimming the 14km stretch from New Brunswick.

He says he’s inspired to finish the distance.

“Keep going and think about the reason you’re doing this. When you see and hear the stories about these kids that have their everyday stuggles a 14 kilometre swim isn’t really that much.”

He says the trek has taken on new meaning for him.

“It’s kind of like a personal challenge to swim the Northumberland Strait. And then I became familiar with Brigadoon Village and it’s such a great charity I decided to do it again this year.”
