Numbers Of Squid Found On Lunenburg County Beaches No Cause For Alarm – DFO

Beachcombers in areas of Lunenburg County saw a large number of dead squid washing ashore last week.

According to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans there’s nothing to be concerned about.

DFO spokesperson Debbie Buott-Matheson explains:

“What it looks like happened, is they got brought in during high tide and they couldn’t make it back out to sea. There weren’t any signs of pollution or anything like that.”

Buott-Matheson says fisheries officers investigated but found no signs the squid were washed up as a result of pollution or foul play.

She says they will continue to monitor the situation but their experience tells them the high tide was responsible.

A video by YouTube user Tattoo Puppy shows some of the squid (used with permission).
