Bridgewater Police Service is warning residents of a scam involving rental houses and apartments.
The scam involves an individual claiming to be renting houses or apartments that are currently for sale on the real-estate market.
The scammer doesn’t own the properties or have permission to rent them.
They direct the person looking to rent to take a walk around the properties, all of which are vacant, and if they’d like to rent them, send a deposit to the scammer.
Police have received several complaints of the scam this week.
However, it’s not believed anyone has fallen for the fraud and no money has been sent.
BPS says to always be sure to verify the validity of the person you’re looking to rent from.
If you have any concerns over this recent activity, contact Bridgewater Police.
