Lumberjacks Championships Well Received In Barrington

The Nova Scotia Lumberjack Championships were held for the first time in Barrington over the weekend.

It took place at the Wild Axe Park along the Barrington river.

Darren Hudson, competitor and owner of the Wild Axe Park says he is very pleased with the turnout and how things went.

“We really pushed the level forward this past weekend. The level of competition was through the roof. We’re very very happy.”

Competitiors from all over Nova Scotia, the Maritimes and even some from Quebec were in attendance, along with hundreds of spectators.

They took part in lumberjack sports like log-rolling, sawing and much more.

Hudson says they are planning to hold it in Barrington again next year, and hope to build on this to host national events.

He says this has put the community on the map in lumberjack sport even more.

“We’re going for it next year. If those numbers continue to grow, we can push it even higher. Momentum is just getting going.”
