Cottages and Rural Areas Prime for Break and Enters

With summer practically here, many folks will be heading to their cottage for the first time to get it ready for summer.

With that in mind, RCMP say they typically see a rise in break and enters at this time of year so they’re asking cottage owners and those in rural areas to keep an eye open.

Police are asking folks to keep a watchful eye out for anything at all suspicious; that could be a vehicle, a person, or something that is just plain odd.

“It may be something as subtle as a vehicle that keeps slowly driving by that you don’t recognize, lurking around, so try and get some details for us like the make and model of the vehicle, the date, the time, description of the occupants,” notes RCMP Constable Rob James of the Queens County Detachment.

James even says getting a photo can certainly help police to nab possible suspects and help curb break and enters and other crimes.

Police are also sending out a reminder to lock the doors on your property while away and report any suspicious activity to police, no matter how small.
