Officials Meeting With Residents To Develop Lunenburg Waterfront Five-Year Plan

A large turnout Saturday to discuss the five-year plan for the Lunenburg Waterfront.

Residents packed into the Lunenburg fire hall to hear ideas and make suggestions about how they want to see the area develop.

Jennifer Angel, Acting President and CEO of Waterfront Development Corporation was on hand to present a plan that puts the working harbour first.

Angel says tourists seek out that authenticity.

“The tourist who’s coming to Lunenburg, to use the language of Captain Mooreland of many years ago, is not looking for a Disneyland version of the waterfront. They’re looking for fish guts on Bluenose Drive.”

Angel says they’re looking to find out how Lunenburgers want to use their waterfront.

“We’re at the wide-end of the funnel at this point. We’re inviting all feedback. Our team will be around town over the coming days and weeks. We encourage strongly, folks to engage in any way they’re most comfortable.”

More meetings are scheduled over the next several weeks.

Angel hopes to see a draft plan, based on that feedback, presented before the end of the year.
