A new world sonar champion has been crowned.

Peter Galloway and his crew on Fast Forward edged out reigning champs Karl Ziegler and Spitfire after three days of racing in Mahone Bay.

Nova Scotia Olympic sailor Judy Lugar was on the winning team with a majority of her teammates hailing from Connecticut.

Henry Demone and the crew of the Bella Rena were the top Canadian boat, finishing fourth overall.

The elite field included 18 world champions, four Sonar champions, 11 Olympians and paralympians.

The Lunenburg Yacht Club hosted the event and is now gearing up to host the Canadian Women’s Keelboat Championship from Wednesday to Sunday.
