Environmental New Years Resolution

The beginning of January is when many people look ahead and set new goals for the coming year.

Stephanie Smits from the Lunenburg Recycling Centre says how you impact the planet should be on the list.

She says there are some things you can do to reduce your waste in the months ahead.

“When you’re buying something, consider if it’s going to have a long life,” she says. “If you can buy rechargeable batteries for instance, you’re gong to get a lot of use out of those. You’re not going to just throw them in the garbage in a few months time.”

Smits says it’s also important to ask yourself if you really need an item before you purchase it.

She says if you decide to buy product, try to make sure it’s durable enough to be passed on to someone else so they can enjoy it once you’re done.
