Lunenburg Digs Into Its History On Potential Partnership

The Town of Lunenburg is going back to its roots.

A partnership has been proposed between the UNESCO world heritage site and its namesake Luneburg, Germany.

Mayor Rachel Bailey says she doesn’t yet know what that would look like, but council is interested and exploring the option.

“We just talked about all of the various exchange possibilities and educational opportunities and cultural opportunities, but we didn’t settle on one way forward. We’ll be giving that more consideration as time goes on.”

Councillors Risser and McGee have been asked to research how the partnership could be most most beneficial to the town.

Risser has a personal connection to the German town.

“Interestingly, Councillor Risser had lived for a year in Luneburg, Germany on an exchange during the 250th anniversary of our community.”

No timeline has been set for when the report will be brought to council.
