E-Coli Detected In School Water

A boil water advisory has been issued for Chester District School.

South Shore Regional School Board Spokesperson Theresa Schroder says the school’s water is routinely tested.

“We have a UV filter in place to make sure everything is safe. It’s well water and we periodically do tests. Yesterday morning, we don’t know if it’s an accurate test or not, but it did come back showing there was some bacteria in the water.”

After low levels of e-coli bacteria were detected fountains were shut off and the school brought in bottled water for students and staff.

Schroder says there’s no cause for concern.

“We’re not sure if it was a false positive, that’s why we’re doing a re-test. We just want to take every precaution we can to make sure.”

Schroder says more tests have been performed but it could take a week to ten days before the results are verified.
