Sobey Family Invests $6.5-Million in NSCC

The Nova Scotia Community College has received the largest private donation in its history.

The Sobeys family is giving $6.5 million to benefit campuses across the province.

Four million dollars will aid potential students who face obstacles to attending the college.

Two million dollars will refurbish the culinary centres including at Lunenburg campus in Bridgewater.

Half a million will benefit students at Marconi and Pictou campuses.

NSCC President Don Bureaux feels this is an acknowledgment of the good work the college is doing.

“The thing that comes to mind for me after this announcement is a sense of pride. That the Nova Scotia community college is seen as a provincial asset that a very well known foundation like the sobeys foundation recognizes us as a true partner. “

Bureaux says the money is already being put to use as bursaries for students in need.

“As a community college we want to make sure everyone has a chance to pursue an education. And under that rubric there’s literally dozens of institutions that we’ll be working with to help make that path possible. “
