The children of Bridgewater’s first refugee family started school this week.
Fatima and Farah Al Kafri had their first full day of classes on Tuesday.
Bridgewater Elementary School Principal, David O’Quinn, says other students have welcomed them with open arms.
“Kids are holding their hand, showing them things, pointing out things,” he says. “Kids find a way to communicate. They don’t need to know each other’s language. It’s just amazing to watch how they support these two children.”
O’Quinn says they have a plan to help the girls pick up the language as quickly as possible.
Meanwhile, plans are in the works to help the parents begin to learn English as well.
