A large crowd was on hand Sunday to witness the first annual Nova Scotia rock-skipping competition in Blue Rocks.
Over 40 people from across the province tried their hand.
Martins River resident Kathy Spidle, Lunenburg’s Willie Wells and Robert MacDonald from Liverpool won titles.
Organizer Karl Marsters explains the idea behind the event.
“It’s a great, silly, fun, competitive activity. And that really hits a lot of buttons that draws people down and hopefully it just gets bigger and bigger.”

Marsters says most importantly, over $600 was raised for Pro Kids of Lunenburg County.
“It does fit what we do in terms of trying to get people out into nature, and recreational, sports-related activities. So it seemed to be a great fit. We wanted to pick a local charity that helped kids, and with recreation, it all just lined up.”
That money will be used to help kids get involved in outdoor sports.
Marsters says he’s pleased with the turnout and is looking forward to seeing the event grow even more next year.
