With the World Challenge coming to Bridgewater next month, sledge hockey is the talk of the town.
So what exactly is the sport all about?
Para-athlete, Dave Waters, says it’s not just for people without the use of their legs.
“Even at the highest level, there is a certain portion of people that are what you deem able-bodied that can still play sledge hockey cause perhaps they don’t want to play regular hockey.”
The game is exactly the same as ice hockey only played in a double-bladed sledge instead of on skates.
Waters says it’s a great cardio workout for anyone who loves to play hockey.
The World Sledge Hockey Challenge will be held in Bridgewater from January 17-23 at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre.
Canada, United States, Russia and Korea are participating.
